Notes on the creative process (from idea to final image)
For this project, I explored the theme of Biodiversity. I wanted to challenge myself by illustrating animals — something I rarely do — and to combine them with natural elements like sand, sea, and grass. The concept evolved from connecting existing illustrations in Procreate with new ideas, allowing me to build on what I already had while developing something more narrative.
My process began with quick sketches based on earlier works, followed by experimenting with composition and tone. The self-portrait with the grass became the foundation, and I expanded the scene by adding animals to create a dreamlike atmosphere. The shadows helped tie the elements together into a cohesive whole.
I struggled to capture the texture of sand within my linear style, but this challenge reminded me that finished is better than perfect. I’m learning to trust the process and accept that my ideas might outgrow my current technical level — which, in itself, is a sign of progress.
