Visual Design / Pattern
Create an illustration-based pattern that demonstrates rhythm, color harmony, and design unity. The pattern should reflect your visual identity and function both conceptually and aesthetically.

Deliverables:

  • 1 full repeating pattern (illustrative design)

  • 1–2 color variations

  • Mockup application of the pattern (e.g. fabric, print, or digital)

  • Short description of concept and color choices

Looking back at my earlier works, I noticed that I consistently use a limited yet vibrant palette — mainly black, yellow, and red, with touches of pink and blue. These color choices are closely tied to my self-portraits: black for outlines, yellow for hair, and red for recurring details like fire and hearts. I tend to work with highly saturated colors rather than tone-on-tone, creating a strong, contrasted visual identity.

My focus has always been on linework rather than color, which I treat as secondary and often use sparingly. As a result, my expression is clear, detailed, and balanced — driven more by structure and contour than by color blending.

I now work entirely digitally in Procreate. My process begins with a pencil sketch, followed by inking with a black “ink-like” brush, and finally adding color layers for skin, hair, and details. This structured workflow gives my illustrations a cohesive and recognizable style.

For inspiration, I frequently turn to my Pinterest board Morgue Archive, where I collect visual references that resonate with me. I reinterpret these images into portraits or self-portraits, experimenting with pose and composition. Moving forward, I want to challenge myself to explore more diverse portrait formats — not just bust or mid-length self-portraits — to push my style and range further.
